How to Install PhotoCraft on Windows, Mac & Linux

Step-by-step install guide for the free AI-built Photoshop alternative — desktop builds, browser version, and building from source.

Installing PhotoCraft takes about two minutes. Grab the official build for your platform, or skip installing entirely and try the browser version. Here is how, step by step.

Option 1: desktop app (recommended)

Go to the official ArtCraft apps page at getartcraft.com/apps and download the build for Windows, macOS, or Linux. Run the installer (or unpack the archive on Linux) and launch. There is no account creation, no license key, no activation — it just opens.

Option 2: browser version (fastest try)

If you only want a quick look, use the browser build linked from the same apps page. Nothing to install; you will know within five minutes whether the current alpha state suits what you had in mind. Performance is decent, though the desktop build is snappier for heavier files.

Option 3: build from source

PhotoCraft is open source on GitHub (storytold/photocraft). If you have Rust tooling installed, clone the repo and follow the build instructions there. This gets you the absolute latest code — which also means the absolute latest bugs. Only worth it if you want to contribute or test bleeding-edge changes.

First-run tips

  • Start with a copy: never open your only copy of an important PSD. Work on duplicates until you trust the alpha.
  • Save often, export early: crashes happen. Export finished work to PNG or JPG as you go.
  • Check the release notes: alpha builds change fast; a feature that was broken last month may work now — or vice versa.

Uninstalling

Remove it like any normal application. Because there is no DRM or account binding, there is nothing to deactivate and no leftover license state to worry about.

Staying updated

Watch the GitHub releases page for new builds. At the current pace of development, checking every month or two is enough to notice real progress.
